High School Programs

Online High School

Online high schools offer much of the same curriculum that is available to students in a normal high school setting. Although there are some subjects that cannot be addressed in the same way, many online classes may actually offer more in-depth instruction thanks to an increase in one-on-one time between the student and the teacher. Some detractors have stated that online high schools prevent students from gaining valuable social skills that they would have developed in a normal high school classroom. However, there are now several different ways to address this problem. Many online high schools offer group projects in which students must communicate, either through email, over the phone, or through online meeting software. Teachers may also hold lectures online in which students are allowed to have an open discussion with their classmates. These advancements have made online school diplomas even more help for students who are earning their degree through a home school online program.

Online Programs

Students earning their high school diploma online have the option to choose from a number of different classes in a variety of different areas of study. In some cases, the number of classes that students enrolled in an online high school diploma program can choose from is actually greater than those offered in brick and mortar classes. This gives students the chance to take courses that they are truly interested in, while still receiving the same basic education that all high schools offer. The skills that online high school diploma programs offer include:

  • Reading Skills
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • American History
  • World History
  • Biology
  • Earth Science
  • Physical Science
  • Career-oriented electives such as Auto Repair, Technician, Personal Computer Specialist, and more
  • Chemistry
  • Spanish
  • Music
  • And many more!

In order to receive an online high school diploma, it is important to note which classes, and how much of each class, are required in order to complete high school. Different states have different requirements, and meeting those requirements will ensure that the student is able to complete their high school education.

GED Prep

For students who wish to earn their GED online, it may only be necessary to take classes in which the student feels that are inadequately knowledgeable. In order to earn an online GED, it is only required that the student passes the GED test. The GED covers a number of basic high school skills. In order to properly prepare for the GED, many students will take several GED preparation classes, and will also take GED practice tests. These GED preparation classes are offered through independent organizations as well as through several different online high school programs. Although high school programs may be offered for free online, there is normally no free GED online program available.

The GED is widely recognized as being similar in scope to the high school diploma. However, if the student is interested in attending college, other than community college or a vocational school, it is strongly recommended that they complete their high school diploma, either online or through a brick and mortar school. Although many colleges recognize the GED as being on par with a diploma, they often require that students show their ability to complete high school as a sign that they are adept at learning in an academic environment.
